For your entire life, the socially acceptable perception of money has been “money doesn’t buy happiness”. You have heard “money is the root of all evil”, and that “money changes people”. The idea of chasing money was frowned upon and seen as gluttonous, because as an American citizen, you have been provided everything a person needs. The American Dream was real and all you had to do was go to school and college; walk out with your guaranteed job that covers all your expenses with enough for a yearly holiday.
But this is no longer the truth. The American Dream died a long time ago, somewhere between 9/11 and the 2008 Financial Crisis. Comfort is now something you must fight for.
The first generation to feel this were Millennials. The first generation to understand it and do something about it is Generation Z: a generation that grew up on the internet, so it’s not surprising to watch the internet become more and more financialized over time.
Over time, as house prices have risen by over 200%, internet usage has doubled, Cryptocurrency usage has gone from zero to 17% of adults, and incomes have risen by 1/10 of what prices have risen by, a wild beast has been born.
